About The Data City
The Data City is a UK-based data provider and SaaS platform focusing on emerging sectors, high growth companies, innovation clusters and investment.
We work with many of the UK's leading government departments, local authorities, investment firms and policymakers, to provide real-time insights that help drive better investment decisions.
Our comprehensive platform
The Data City uses website text and machine learning to classify companies by what they do, not by what SIC code was used when the company was set up.
This allows users to more accurately map, measure and understand emerging economies on a regional and national scale.
Our comprehensive database consists of over 5 million UK companies and 400+ emerging sector classifications - known as Real-Time Industrial Classifications (RTICs). These include growing sectors such as Net Zero, AgriTech, AI, Quantum Computing and many more.
Platform users can access in-depth company, financial, funding, employee, growth and location data at a company and RTIC level. This includes 3rd party data from a range of sources and partners including Dealroom, Lightcast, Creditsafe, Companies House, Innovate UK, 360 Giving and more.
Additionally the platform allows users to create their own classifications and company lists using our AI list builder, view individual company information in EXPLORE and spot key insights within our ANALYSE tool.
The origin of The Data City
Around 5 years ago, the founders of The Data City became aware of the limitations of SIC codes when it came to classifying the emerging economy.
During that time, our CEO, Alex Craven, noticed that his digital agency (along with others in the same industry) were not included in digital agency lists.
Upon further investigation, he discovered that this was due to the absence of a clearly defined SIC code for digital agencies. This realisation served as a catalyst for him and the other founders to establish The Data City and develop innovative solutions like RTICs and Data Explorer.
